The Manx TaxPayers’ Alliance has criticised government’s decision to mirror the UK and restore the higher VAT rates on hospitality and attractions businesses.
Spokesman Michael Josem said: “Slugging Manx hospitality businesses with higher taxes at the start of the off-season is precisely the wrong thing for Manx businesses and workers. Manx businesses and workers need higher taxes like they need a hole in the head.”
He continued: “We should be supporting local businesses and workers through the winter, not whacking them with higher taxes when the weather gets colder and wetter. Many of these businesses suffered the brunt of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and COVID-19 tourism restrictions.”
