National COVID Response Group meeting today to formulate response to new Covid threat


The Isle of Man’s National COVID Response Group is meeting today to discuss the implications for the Island of the latest Coronavirus variant to emerge from South Africa. The meeting will be followed by a sitting of the Council of Ministers.

The UK has already announced increased bio-security measures to counter the spread of the so-called Omicron variant, including compulsory mask wearing on public transport and in shops, along with testing of people flying into the country.

Meanwhile Chief Minister, Alfred Cannan has stated that his government is ‘ready to act’ if required. 

The Government said yesterday that 21 people who travelled from Southern Africa in the Isle of Man during the last 10 days have  been contacted and are undergoing Covid testing.
