MHK calls for resignation of former Health Minister

A call for former Health Minister, David Ashford (now Treasury Minister) to resign, has been made by an MHK.

Speaking to Manx Radio, Chris Thomas (Douglas Central) said Mr Ashford’s resignation would be a good solution for both the Minister and the Government.

His comments follow strongly worded criticism of the Department of Health and Social Care after an employment tribunal upheld former Medical Director, Dr. Rosalind Ranson’s claim for unfair dismissal.

The tribunal was critical of Mr Ashford, who it it claimed had been over reliant on his CEO at the DHSC. He has denied being involved in the decision to dispense with Dr Ranson’s services.

The Chief Minister, Alfred Cannan, will make a statement in Tynwald tomorrow in the wake of the tribunal findings.
