IoD Inspire Next Generation of Directors at UCM

Members of the Institute of Directors Isle of Man branch (IoD) shared their valuable experience with Business and Management students at University College Isle of Man (UCM), helping to inspire the next generation of Directors and Entrepreneurs.

Jennifer Houghton, Chair for the Isle of Man’s IoD, was joined by committee members Jay Houghton and Carolyn Gelling to introduce the organisation, its history and how students can get involved.

The IoD is a British professional organisation for company directors, senior business leaders and entrepreneurs, and is the UK’s longest running organisation for professional leaders.

The three experienced Directors also shared with the students some of their industry experiences, explaining how important the IoD has been to their own development.

The talk was attended by 25 students, each studying at various levels at UCM’s Nunnery campus.

Jennifer Houghton told B365: “It’s always a real privilege to meet with those students who will soon be coming into industry. There’s a wealth of talent on the Island and it’s important for experienced professionals, such as the team at the IoD, to share their knowledge and experience to help develop the leaders of the future.

“We’re delighted to be forging a partnership with UCM to help inspire future Directors and look forward to helping more students in their journey through attaining their high levels of qualifications into the world of work.”

Lorien Russouw, a UCM student who attended the talk, added “Hearing the experiences of such knowledgeable professionals really helps bring our studies to life. It’s exciting to think about what our future may hold once we’ve graduated.”
