Government takes Island to Covid Alert level 2

The arrival in the UK of the new Omicron variant of Covid 19, from Southern Africa has forced the Manx Government to move to ‘Alert Level 2’.

Speaking at a media briefing last night the chief minister, Alfred Cannan said face coverings are once again mandatory on public transport, and in health and care settings.

Meanwhile all fully vaccinated travellers coming into the Island must self-isolate, and undergo a PCR test within 48 hours. All arrivals from within the common travel area must commit to taking a lateral flow test after their arrival.

The new rules come into force at 4am tomorrow (Tuesday).

Mr Cannan says that even with the measures it’s expected the variant will arrive sooner rather than later.
