One of the main roads through Ballasalla will be closed each evening for approximately a fortnight towards the end of the month.
It is to facilitate the surfacing and completion of the new roundabout on the A5 Douglas Road next to Dandara’s Reayrt Mie housing development.
The closure will be in place from 7pm until midnight each evening from October 25 to November 7. Motorists travelling between the east and south of the Island are advised to use the A26 St Mark’s Road.
The work will not impede access to any properties in the area.
Dandara’s Housing Director Ciaran Downey told B365: ‘We appreciate this work at the northern end of the new by-pass will create some inconvenience for a short period and apologise for that but feel sure people will understand this is necessary as the scheme progresses.
‘By closing the area each evening, we have tried to minimise disruption and will endeavour to complete the works as quickly as possible.
‘When complete, the new by-pass will relieve Ballasalla of two thirds of the A5 traffic which currently passes through the village. This will greatly improve road safety, reduce traffic noise and generally enhance the quality of life for village residents.’
The most recent Southern Area Plan concluded a link road would reduce traffic congestion, improve journey times and create an area for mixed employment.
